Mayor Wan-An Chiang Receives Alain Richard, French Senate Vice President and Taiwan Friendship Group Chair

On April 24, a delegation led by Alain Richard, French Senate Vice President and Taiwan Friendship Group Chair, visited Mayor of Taipei City Wan-An Chiang. The delegation consisted of five members from different political parties, along with senators Alexandra Borchio-Fontimp, Valérie Boyer, and Brigitte Devésa and the executive secretary of the Taiwan Friendship Group, Philippe Péjo. Jean-François Casabonne-Masonnave, Director of the French Office in Taipei, also participated in the meeting to exchange ideas on transportation, urban development, and city governance.

After providing a warm welcome, Mayor Chiang addressed the close relationships between Taipei City and France by discussing Luc Besson and his team’s scouting trip to the city in February for a new movie, the annual Nuit Blanche events held by the city government since 2016, and the establishment of the first experimental educational institution in 2022 by Taiwan and France in Taipei City.

Vice President Richard thanked Mayor Chiang for making time for them, praised the alignment of Taiwan and France with and practice of democratic values and freedom, and emphasized France’s growing friendliness toward Taiwan.

This was Vice President Richard’s fourth visit to Taiwan as member of a delegation, demonstrating the expanding cultural, artistic, technological, and businesses ties between Taiwan and France. France serves as an excellent example of innovation and creativity for Taiwan. Taipei City looks forward to strengthening collaborations between the two countries.
