According to Hsiao Chih-Lung, Section Chief of Public Works Department, New Construction Office – the redevelopment of No. 45, Hanzhong Street, Wanhua District, Taipei City was proposed by the “Ximending Pedestrian Zone Development Promotion Association” at a local meeting during a visit to the Ximending district by city mayor Ko Wen-Je. Subsequently, the city government set in motion a plan to use the site as the Ximending district service center and related ancillary facilities to meet the needs of local people.

Chu Hsuan-Tung, Director of Chengxi Branch, Public Works Department, Taipei Construction Office, stated that the plan for the Ximending Multi-functional Visitor Service Center is to construct a safe and relaxing tourist area. The site is located in the prime shopping location of the Ximen pedestrian zone. It has 4 floors – 1st floor: a visitor center, an all gender restroom and a mobile police station; 2nd floor: a souvenir store and a visitor resting center; 3rd floor: multi-functional meeting rooms and gender-friendly facilities; and 4th floor: city government offices for related units. The building will be a semi-open space, and thanks to its architectural design and scenic staircase, the visitor resting area on the second floor can be easily accessed. The smooth traffic flow design echoes the center’s open and friendly space, and a mobile police station for police officer of the Ximending area is stationed in the center, ready to serve the public’s needs. The public toilets are barrier-free and parent-child toilets are also in place for domestic and foreign visitors to have a family-friendly environment.
