City Holds Double Ten Flag-raising Ceremony

Mayor Ko and participants of the 2020 Double Ten Day Flag-raising CeremonyTaipei City Government held the Double Ten National Day Flag-raising ceremony at Citizen’s Plaza at 7 AM on October 10.

Mayor Ko Wen-je presided over the event and joined the participants in singing happy birthday. Another spotlight of the event is the sixth-generation “buzz bag” touting a simplistic design with two color options this year: black/gray and black/brown.

In light of the pandemic, the city government implemented the “online registration, onsite pickup” system for bag distribution. A total of 3,450 buzz bags were given away starting at 8 AM. This ensures that people will no longer have to line up overnight to obtain these popular souvenirs.

As for performances on the main stage, the events kicked off at 7 AM with the powerful music from the band @aker, followed by the cheerleading dance of Shih Hsin University’s cheerleading squad. The flag-raising ceremony officially took place at 7:30 AM, with the members of CP BOYS singing the national anthem and everyone wishing the nation a happy 109th birthday.

The mayor also helped out in distributing the buzz bags. By using scanners to read the barcodes on ID cards, it took an individual an average of 3-to-5 seconds to pick up his or her bag.
