Sidewalk on the upstream side of Chenggong Bridge's main stretch to open to pedestrian traffic on January 18, 2019

To deal with soaring traffic volume after the completion of multiple major public projects (e.g. the Nangang Bus Station, Taipei Music Center, Nangang Exhibition Center, and the Dongming Public Housing) in Taipei’s rapidly growing and developing Nangang and Neihu District, the New Construction Office (NCO) of the Taipei City Government’s Public Works Department embarked on a Chenggong Bridge expansion to connect the two districts of the city.

NCO added that the expansion project began on October 26, 2017 and proceeded in stages to mitigate impact to local traffic. After lanes on the upstream side of its main stretch were expanded and staircases in and out of the banks and sidewalks were retrofitted, the upstream side of Chenggong Bridge's main stretch is to open to traffic on January 18, 2019. This would enable the general public to walk in between the Nangang and Neihu districts while closing the sidewalk and bike route on the downstream side to initiate the main bridge guardrail and bridge deck removal project.

To minimize the project’s impact on local traffic, the project needs to be executed in stages, and lanes shifted according to a traffic maintenance plan approved by the City Government’s Department of Transportation. The NCO reminds drivers and pedestrians to slow down when passing through the work site and follow the instructions of traffic controllers.
