DOH: Taipei City’s COVID Update for September 12

A student being vaccinatedThe Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,006 new domestic COVID-19 cases for Taipei City on September 12. For September 11, there are 28,686 people under at-home-care and 3,037 individuals under home isolation in the city.

The city government also announced that the 29th round of reservations via Taipei’s COVID-19 Vaccination Booking Platform will be available from September 13 through 16 (between 9 AM and 9 PM each day). The appointment dates will fall between September 19 and 25. The choices available include: Moderna vaccine for children ages 6 months and older; Moderna vaccine for children and teens; Moderna vaccine; Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT) vaccine for children ages 6 months and older; BNT vaccine for children and teens; BNT vaccine (12-17 years old); NOVAVAX vaccine, and MVC vaccine. There are roughly 60,000 openings available, as well as 20,000 openings via outpatient clinic reservations at local partner hospitals. The agency reminds the public that in light of COVID-19 variants and a possible rise in the number of cases, the central government have announced the reduction of the minimal interval for the following shots to 3 months starting September 12: between primary series and booster shot 1; between booster shot 1 and booster shot 2, and between primary series and booster shot 1 for individuals 12-17 years old.

As vaccines are effective in lowering the chance of contracting COVID-19 and minimizing the possibility of severe symptoms for those infected, DOH calls upon those qualified for shots – especially kids under 12 who have not completed the primary series and those above 50 who have not received their booster shots (1 or 2) – to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

For senior residents of Taipei City above the age of 65 (and indigenous residents above the age of 55) who received their shots before July 31 but have yet to pick up their incentive gift vouchers, they can do so before September 15 at the hospital where they received the shot.

With the Moon Festival long weekend just behind us, DOH reminds residents to monitor their own health and take temperature daily. If you notice symptoms such as fever, throat pain, coughing, runny nose, diarrhea, or abnormality with taste or smell, you should conduct a rapid test. For those testing positive, write your name and testing date on the test strip and consult the list of hospitals and clinics offering COVID-19 online outpatient service on the city government’s website (https://reurl.cc/n1xjr1). Have your NHI card and test strip ready for the online session, or have your friend or family member bring the test strip and your NHI card on your behalf to the doctor at the hospital. The doctor will assess the situation and provide prescription if deemed necessary. The drugs can be either picked up at either the hospital by your friend/relative or contact your local pharmacy to have it delivered to your doorstep. In the case of emergency during home isolation, please call 119 or have a friend or relative drive you to the hospital.

Residents should continue to maintain pandemic prevention best practices such as washing hands, observing cough etiquette, and wearing face mask. They should also avoid crowded places and unnecessary gatherings to reduce risk of contracting the virus. For more information on COVID-19, please visit the COVID-19 info page on the city government’s website or call either the City’s pandemic prevention hotline (02-2375-3782) or the 1999 Citizens’ Hotline.
