Tianmu Baseball Stadium: A Model Case for Sports Venue Digital Transition

Tianmu Baseball Stadium: A Model Case for Sports Venue Digital TransitionMayor Ko Wen-je stopped by the Tianmu Baseball Stadium to check out the progress of various digital digital upgrades at the facility on November 21.
A series of new devices and systems has been installed at the facility, including 5G base station, massive stadium wall LED screen, stadium wide monitor and information system, motion high-speed cameras, and tracking radar.
The mayor joined the baseball players on the field and the virtual idol Hoonie in a performance combining real world and virtual aspects during the seventh inning stretch of a ballgame. Ko also tried out interacting virtually with the baseball stars on the billboard using the mobile phone’s AR function.
Ko praised the Wei Chuan Dragons Baseball Team and the Sports Department (SPD) for doing a great job at refurbishing the baseball stadium into a smart facility, as well as expanding its digital potentials through the implementation of various IT solutions. He hopes that in the post-pandemic world, the city government’s support for the digital transition of industries enables Taipei to live alongside the pandemic and restructure a new economic and daily-living mode.
SPD pointed out that the hardware overhaul of Tianmu Baseball stadium was completed in 2020. As the only synthetic turf baseball stadium in Taiwan, the Tianmu Baseball stadium plays a key role in stimulating the neighborhood economy through baseball games and pro-baseball-related events. A total of NT$45 million has been invested in the facility by the outsourced operator Dragons Baseball Stadium Corporation to refurbish the structure, making it the home stadium of the Wei Chuan Dragons and upgrading the facility digitally with advanced ICT solutions.
