Celebrating the 119 Firefighters' Day - Mayor Chiang, Wan-An praised exemplary firefighters and personnel contributing to city governance

The 119 Firefighters' Day celebration event was held along with the Golden Dragon Award ceremony at the auditorium of Taipei City Fire Department on January 19th (Friday) 2:00 PM. Mayor Chiang, Wan-An personally presided over the event.


The Golden Dragon Award is the highest honor in Taipei City's firefighting efforts. From over 3,000 firefighters and volunteers, 30 outstanding individuals were selected for Mayor Chiang's commendation.


Mayor Chiang particularly acknowledged the Fire Department's efforts in disaster relief and rescue. In 2023, of all the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients, 171 patients were resuscitated and were discharged from the hospital, marking the best performance in the past years.


Taipei City Fire Department also won the "Institutional Award" at the Asian EMS Awards in 2023, marking the first time of Taiwan receiving an international EMS award. Besides, the fire department enhance the rescue communication efficiency by replacing all the wireless intercom, adding positioning features for rapid and effective firefighting and rescue services. The "119 Efficient Duty Dispatch System" also received recognition, winning the 6th Government Service Award for Digital Innovation and Value-added, as well as the "IDC Future Enterprise Awards 2023 - Special Award for Smart Cities -Best in Digital Policies (Asia-Pacific region and Taiwanese region)".


Mayor Chiang stated that, to strengthen the firefighting manpower and improve the working hours, Taipei City will continue its effort to achieve a ratio of 1:1,000 for firefighting services relative to the population. He also exhorted all the fellows in the fire department to prioritize citizens and public opinion, embodying the spirit of firefighters – courage, friendliness, accessibility, and efficiency. The active integration of artificial intelligence in firefighting applications aims to create a rapid and effective firefighting and rescue service, contributing to a livable, safe, healthy, and smart city, safeguarding the lives and property of Taipei citizens.


Mayor Chiang extended special thanks to civilian groups and benevolent individuals who contributed significantly to firefighting governance last year. This included 56 civilian groups and individuals such as Songshan Ciyou Temple, Taipei Hulu Temple, Songshan Cihui Temple, Bangka Longshan Temple, City God Temple of Taipei City, Fujing Temple, and Jiu Fu Xianshi Pu Hui Temple, and also Taipei City Fire Department Friends Association and Taipei City Firefighters Association who consistently assist in municipal work. In 2023, charitable organizations and benevolent individuals generously donated ambulances, fire trucks, various disaster relief and rescue equipment, and training funds, amounting to over 176 million NTD.


At the end of the event, Mayor Chiang, Wan-An wished all attendants a happy 119 Firefighters' Day and a joyful Chinese New Year. He emphasized the importance of firefighters continuing to stick to their post, ensuring the safety of citizens during the Chinese New Year holiday season.
