Czech Artist Gives Artwork to Taipei City Government in Appreciation of Sister City Partnership

Czech Artist Gives Artwork to Taipei City Government.
Mayor Ko received an artwork from Michal Jirku, a Czech artist currently studying at National Taiwan University. He gave one of his artworks to the Taipei City Government in appreciation of the sister city partnership between Prague and Taipei. The official ceremony was held on June 2, 2020, at Taipei City Hall.

Michal expressed his appreciation for the sister city partnership between Prague and Taipei, which was signed in January 2020. With the emergence of the COVID-19 crisis, Taipei was one of the few partners to donate medical supplies to Prague. “As a former resident of Prague who was born there, I would like to use this opportunity to thank Taipei City for the recent assistance on behalf of all Prague citizens. I hope that through this artwork the Prague–Taipei partnership will become even stronger and enable further fruitful cooperation.” Moreover, Michal expressed his gratitude to Taipei City, the Government of the Republic of China, and all related institutions for their effective fight against the pandemic.

The artwork was created for the “Day to Remembrance” series, which depicts Prague during sunset. It is a composition of approximately 100 single photos that capture the entire sunset period with daylight on one side and the night on the other. The final image was then digitally post processed, and a painting-like artwork was created. The artwork can be found at https://jirku.art/#dynamic under the name PragueSet.
