Mayor Chiang Urges International Diplomats to Promote the 2025 World Masters Games: An Invitation to Friends Worldwide to Visit Taiwan for Woodball
Taipei Mayor Wan-an Chiang attended the International Friendship Woodball Tournament on the morning of January 16 at Xinzhuang Gymnasium to promote the 2025 World Masters Games. He was joined by New Taipei Mayor You-yi Hou in opening the event. Chiang emphasized that registration for the 2025 World Masters Games will close on February 17 and called on international diplomats stationed in Taiwan to help spread the word, encouraging friends from around the world to visit Taiwan, experience its unique landscapes and cultural attractions, and foster interpersonal connections through sports. Mayor Chiang expressed his delight in participating in this dynamic and friendly international woodball tournament. Addressing the diplomats in attendance, he introduced woodball as a sport invented in Taiwan that is deeply rooted in local culture. He explained that the size of the ball was inspired by handrail spheres on staircases, and the design of the gate poles was derived from Taiwanese beer bottles. Additionally, the swivel motion when passing through the gate resembles a flipping wine glass, symbolizing a toast to success for the players. Woodball embodies Taiwan’s cultural identity, and Chiang hopes that the 2025 World Masters Games will provide an opportunity to promote this sport, which is enjoyed by all generations. Mayor Chiang further noted that the 2025 World Masters Games, set to take place in May, has already attracted over 31,000 registered participants. With the final registration deadline approaching on February 17, he urged diplomatic representatives to help promote the event and encourage more international athletes to join. He also highlighted that participants will have the chance to explore Taiwan’s diverse attractions, including Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Yilan, during their stay. As the Lunar New Year approaches, Mayor Chiang also extended his warmest holiday greetings to the diplomats attending the event.
