Taipei City and Lima Became Sister Cities
Taipei City and Lima, the capital city of Peru, became sister cities on February 25, 2020. With the help of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Peru, the two cities signed the agreement. Lima has officially become Taipei’s 51st sister city.
Taipei City established its first sister-city tie with Houston, Texas, United States on June 15, 1961, and now has 51 sister cities from 37 countries, as well as 3 partner cities and 5 friendship cities.
During Mayor Ko, Wen-Je’s term in office, Taipei has signed agreements with six cities, including one partner city of Wellington, New Zealand in 2015 and five sister cities: Quito, Ecuador in 2016; Castries, Saint Lucia in 2018; Belmopan, Belize in 2019; Prague, Czech Republic; and Lima, Republic of Peru in 2020.
To promote mutual understanding and friendship between Taipei and Lima, the two cities will enhance cooperation on culture, health, transportation, sports, smart cities, and city development in the future.
