Mayor Chiang Wan-An Meets with Mongolian Representative Tumurbaatar to Discuss Personnel Training and Sister City Cooperation

On June 14, 2024, Tumurbaatar Gankhuyag, the Representative of the Ulaanbaatar Trade and Economic Representative Office in Taipei, led a delegation to visit Mayor Chiang Wan-An and his team at Taipei City Hall. During this visit, the two sides exchanged views on topics such as personnel training, disaster prevention and relief, and future directions for sister city cooperation.

Mayor Chiang expressed his gratitude for the representative office’s support for various city events conducted in Taipei, including the Taipei Lantern Festival, the International Night of Fireflies at Daan Forest Park, and several disaster drills. He also recalled his meeting with Ulaanbaatar Mayor Nyambaatar Khishgee at the SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024 Summit in May, where they shared experiences about urban governance. Mayor Chiang extended an invitation through Representative Tumurbaatar for Mayor Khishgee to attend the CityNet Disaster Cluster International Seminar, which will be hosted by Taipei from September 19 to 21, 2024. Mayor Chiang noted that Ulaanbaatar is currently planning to build a metro system and that representatives from the Taipei Metro Department and Company were present to foster idea exchanges. He also thanked his Mongolian friends for their enthusiastic participation in the 2025 World Masters Games. According to the latest registration statistics for foreign athletes, Mongolia was ranked 6th in terms of the number of athletes registered. Mayor Chiang also expressed his hope for the representative office to continue promoting the event and inviting more Mongolian friends to participate.

Representative Tumurbaatar expressed his gratitude to Mayor Chiang for arranging this meeting despite his busy schedule. Ulaanbaatar and Taipei have been sister cities since 1997. In human terms, this relationship can be described as youthful and energetic. He expressed optimism for the two cities to continue supporting and strengthening their cooperation, particularly during his and Mayor Chiang’s tenures. The aim of the visit was to confirm the direction of cooperation for personnel training, disaster prevention, and other exchanges. Considering that Taipei has accumulated extensive experience in metro construction and operation and disaster prevention, Metro Department Director Cheng De-fa, Metro Company Chairman Zhao Shao-lian, and Fire Department Director Mo Huai-zu have all expressed their willingness to share Taipei’s experience and assist Ulaanbaatar with personnel training in these areas. To support this endeavor, Mayor Chiang has requested all departments to provide the necessary assistance.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts. Mayor Chiang presented Representative Tumurbaatar with two gifts, namely a plushie of “Strong,” the mascot for the 2025 World Masters Games, and a tea gift box from the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. In response, Representative Tumurbaatar presented Mayor Chiang with a snow globe featuring the urban imagery of Ulaanbaatar, which was designed by a Mongolian brand.
