Learning From Singapore for the Taipei Dome: Wan-An Chiang Visits the Singapore National Stadium, and Singapore Shares Its Experience in Securing Taylor Swift Concerts
On June 17, 2026, Taipei Mayor Wan-An Chiang visited the Singapore National Stadium, where he was received by Quek Swee Kuan, chief executive officer of the Kallang Alive Sport Management (Kallang Group), the organization responsible for operating the venue. With the Taipei Dome currently hosting an increasing number of concerts, international sporting events, and large-scale activities since its opening, Chiang took the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions with the Singaporean team on topics such as the operation of major venues, the concert economy, strategies for attracting international events, and the tourism benefits generated by such events. During this exchange, Quek expressed his willingness to share the Singapore National Stadium’s operational experience to help the Taipei Dome. He also noted that “a successful Asia is better for everyone,” emphasizing that greater openness and collaboration among Asian cities and major event venues would contribute to the region’s large-scale events industry as a whole. Chiang toured the Singapore National Stadium to gain a firsthand understanding of how Singapore has integrated sporting events, concerts, entertainment, and community engagement into a comprehensive venue management model. The Singaporean team also explained that the former Singapore Sports Hub has recently been repositioned as the Kallang, reflecting a broader vision in which the venue would serve not only as a destination for sporting events but also as a hub for entertainment, lifestyle, and community activities. This transformation has enabled the venue to become an integral part of everyday urban life rather than simply a space for hosting events. Chiang shared Taipei’s experience since the opening of the Taipei Dome three years earlier, elucidating that the city has been actively promoting the concert economy. He further expressed his hope that this exchange with Singapore would provide valuable insights for further integrating and revitalizing Taipei’s urban spaces through major event venues. Quek and his team shared their experience of successfully securing Taylor Swift’s concerts for Singapore. Before the tour, they had traveled to Australia to observe the planning and operational arrangements for her concerts firsthand. Drawing on that experience, they stated that, regardless of which city hosts a Taylor Swift concert, these concerts ultimately benefit Asia as a whole by enhancing the region’s profile as a destination for world-class entertainment. The two sides also exchanged views on different venue management models and discussed how sporting events and concerts influence venue operations. They further explored how schedules for concerts, sporting competitions, and community events can be coordinated depending on their respective characteristics, thereby achieving a balance between commercial returns and public value. The Singaporean team expounded that the Singapore National Stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 55,000 spectators and that it features a retractable roof and a flexible seating configuration that can be adapted to accommodate different types of events. During Taylor Swift’s concerts at the venue, the combination of stage placement, large side screens, stadium seating, and floor audience areas has enabled the stadium to accommodate up to approximately 63,000 spectators for a single performance. Before concluding the visit, Chiang thanked Quek and the Kallang Group for sharing their experience in operating a world-class event venue and curating international events at the Singapore National Stadium. He also welcomed the Singaporean team to visit Taipei as a delegation to further strengthen exchanges and collaboration between the two cities.
