On June 15, 2026, Taipei Mayor Wan-An Chiang was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cities Summit. He was seated at the main table with leaders of other prize-winning cities and joined by the representatives of international cities and organizations.

During the event, Mayor Chiang shook hands and exchanged greetings with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Mayor of South West District, Ms. Yen-Ling Low, also presented Mayor Chiang with a special welcome gift. The gift featured Singapore’s iconic city skyline, presenting Singapore’s distinctive integration of art, nature, waterfront scenery, and urban landmarks.

This opening ceremony featured a keynote speech by Prime Minister Wong and welcoming remarks by Singapore’s Minister of National Development Hong-Tat Chee. The theme of the opening ceremony was “From Aspiration to Acceleration: Implementing National Policies in Urban Contexts.” United Nations’ Under-Secretary-General and Habitat Executive Director Anaclaudia Rossbach also attended this summit and delivered a keynote speech during the afternoon session.

Mayor Chiang also visited the Taipei booth and exchanged views with Dr. Koon-Hean Cheong, Chair of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize Nominating Committee, and Ms. Lay-Bee Yap, Executive Secretary of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize Nominating Committee and Director General of Architecture and Urban Design Excellence at the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

Overall, Taipei participated in the World Cities Summit as the recipient of the 2026 Special Mention of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize. In addition to showcasing city governance achievements to the world, Taipei City’s representatives engaged in friendly exchanges with representatives from various cities and international organizations.
