On June 14, 2026, Taipei Mayor Wan-An Chiang led a delegation to Singapore to receive the Special Mention of the 2026 Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize on behalf of Taipei. During an interview before departure, he mentioned that the purpose of this trip is not only to accept the award and participate in forums to share municipal achievements but also to create new opportunities for Taipei’s city governance through substantive exchanges.

During the event, Mayor Chiang mentioned that he delivered the good news of the award to all citizens of Taipei in March 2026. He noted that Taipei stood out among major cities from around the world and received the honor of the Special Mention of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize. This is the first time a city in Taiwan receives this award, and the Taipei City Government is very honored to travel to Singapore to accept it. He especially thanked former mayors, city government teams, all civil servants, and public and private partners for their long-term efforts and contributions, which have made this achievement possible.

Chiang mentioned that in addition to receiving the award, participating in forums, and sharing Taipei’s governance achievements over the past few years, this visit to Singapore will provide opportunities to exchange opinions, interact, and learn from the mayors of London, Budapest, and other major cities around the world. He also noted that the Taipei City Government will take this rare opportunity to engage in substantive exchanges with the Singaporean government. For instance, the city government delegation will visit the renowned Punggol Digital District to understand how it uses an open digital platform for cross-ministerial and cross-departmental governance, organically integrating transportation, energy, and the Internet of Things. In addition, the delegation will visit the Singapore National Stadium to learn about its experience in promoting the concert economy. Mayor Chiang highlighted that the itinerary is tight, but he looks forward to this visit to help advance concrete forms of future cooperation through substantive exchanges.

During the event, Mayor Chiang commented on Taipei’s mayoral candidate Puma Shen’s questioning of whether this award can be regarded as the cumulative achievement of successive mayors. He mentioned that municipal governance must be carried forward from one administration to the next. He especially thanked all mayors and city government teams, as well as all citizens of Taipei. He also expressed his deep gratitude to all civil servants, noting that this achievement would not have been possible without their hard work. Moreover, he mentioned that his ultimate goal is to protect this achievement and to continue working hard for the progress and international visibility of Taipei and Taiwan.

After the event, the media asked Mayor Chiang to personally comment on Shen’s criticism of municipal governance and whether he intends to engage in a debate. In response, Mayor Chiang mentioned that he faces all types of municipal problems every day and addresses them one by one. He also noted that he adopts concrete actions to advance various municipal construction projects and that the city government is willing to listen and consider suggestions from all parties.
