Taipei City Mayor Wan-An Chiang was invited to lead a delegation to Paris, France, on June 19th to participate in the Summit of Mayors and to conduct municipal visits. Mayor Chiang noted that this year marked the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, signed at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, and signifies a crucial global milestone in promoting environmental governance and achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Taipei City’s invitation to participate in the summit at this notable juncture, and as the sole Asian city attending, was a momentous occasion.

Mayor Chiang indicated that he would present Taipei City’s recent achievements in the areas of environmental governance, net-zero carbon emissions, and green transportation during the summit to demonstrate the city’s efforts and accomplishments in advancing sustainable urban development. In addition to participating in the summit, the itinerary also includes official visits with representatives from key cities such as Paris, London, Barcelona, and Rio de Janeiro, as well as a meeting at the French Senate with the Vice Chair of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces to deepen bilateral exchanges.

Mayor Chiang emphasized that this visit also served as a crucial opportunity for international outreach, through which Taipei’s cultural and artistic assets, technological industries, and achievements in urban governance could be introduced to the global community. He expressed his hope that this initiative would further introduce Taipei to the global community and enhance the international visibility of the city.

This trip had been planned as a critical international exchange mission. The delegation is scheduled to return to Taipei on June 25th. During the visit, close coordination will be maintained with the Taipei City Government to ensure the uninterrupted operations of the city administration.
