MRT Wenhu Line Train Cabins Undergo Revamp

MRT Wenhu Line Train Cabins Undergo RevampTo alleviate the pressure from large number of rush hour commuters and to boost the comfort of passenger seating, the maintenance team at Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) overhauled the cabin interior of trains running on the MRT Wenhu Line.

The refurbished cabins of the Type 370 trains saw readjusted seat curvatures and increased space for passengers. Initial feedback from the public indicated a satisfactory rate of 80-percent for the new arrangements.

The five major improvements to the train cabin include the follows:

Each Car Can Carry up to 20 More Riders: Eight additional seats are added to each cabin, thereby expanding total number of seats to 84. By removing the poles near the doors and other areas, each car will have room for 12 more standing passengers. In all, the entire train can now accommodate up to 360 riders.

Increased Comfort: The original seats of the Type 370 trains have a back curve which many passengers find uncomfortable – especially when they experience a “sinking” sensation as their backs slowly slide down in the seat. The revamped seats offer more support for both the back and legs.

More Convenience: The removal of poles near the train doors provide easier access for passengers on wheelchairs and people with baby strollers.

Boosted Functionality: Additional horizontal, multi-functional handlebars have been installed on the trains. Passengers can lean on or hold on to these bars for support, or place their baggage on them.

Brand New Floor Tiles: The overhauled floors of the cabins have a brand-new, anti-slip plastic coating on the surface.

TRTC expects to complete the renovations of all 50 Type 370 train cars by mid-2023. For more information, please call the company’s 24-hour customer hotline (02-218-12345) or the 1999 Citizens’ Hotline. Details are also available on the company’s Chinese website (https://www.metro.taipei/)
