* In celebrating the 20th birthday of Guandu Nature Park, the Wild Bird Society of Taipei organized the A Date with Guandu drawing contest, inviting children from kindergarten to the 6th grade of elementary school to come to the Guandu Nature Park and present the sceneries, organisms, and the stories they have seen in the form of drawings. Outstanding works will receive prizes worth at least NT$7,000. Submissions are accepted from July 2 to August 31, everyone is welcome to capture wonderful memories of Guandu Nature Park with their pen.

According to Guandu Nature Park, the sketching event allows parents and their children to get close to nature and observe the diversity of animals and plants within the wetland environment, in turn enhancing their observation of nature and their ability to appreciate natural aesthetics. So come on, embark on a one-day wetland light journey to capture the most magnificent memories of the summer vacation with your pen. Participants eligible for this event include elementary school students and kindergarteners from public and private schools across the country, and they will be divided into 3 groups: lower grade students (including kindergarteners), intermediate grade students, and senior grade students.

Students can enter the contest by purchasing a ticket to enter the park and by obtaining specially designed drawing paper at the ticketing booth. There is no limitation on the theme or creative medium of your drawing and the artwork must be submitted to the service desk on the first floor of the Nature Center on the day of your visit. For each group, one outstanding prize winner and three excellent prize winners will be chosen. Outstanding prize winners will receive a pair of Nikon binoculars (valued around NT$4-5,000), an annual pass to the Guandu Nature Park (unlimited access for one year), and nature books. The combined value of these prizes is over NT$7,000. Furthermore, in addition to receiving 2 free tickets to Guandu Nature Park, those who have submitted works to the contest will each receive a lottery ticket, so they stand to win amazing prizes every week. The lottery will be live-casted on Guandu Nature Park’s Facebook fan page. The earlier you submit your work, the more likely you are to win a prize! Moreover, the popularity poll will be conducted in September, where the most popular submission will be selected based on the number of likes and shares. The most popular work will win a pair of binoculars valued at NT$6,000!

The Taipei City Animal Protection Office (APO) indicated that Guandu Nature Park’s abundant wetland ecology has attracted countless migratory birds in winter, turning it into a food supply station for birds. Not only is it listed as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) recognized by BirdLife International, but it is also the first Environmental Education Act-certified venue, reaching its 2 millionth visitor milestone in 2018. Parents are welcome to bring their children to the park to experience the wetland ecology and participate in the drawing contest during summer vacation. There are also interesting activities over the weekends such as Little Duckling Storytelling, handicraft DIY, etc. The aim is to inspire the children’s understanding of ecological conservation and initiate dialogues with them through Guandu Nature Park-related activities.
